SUB-STRUCTURE looks to landform manipulation and grade change devices as primary tools for creating powerful spatial experiences. An exploration of geologic forces led to this constructed landform conceived as a public park and playspace.  A combination of physical and digital 3D modeling tools were used to simulate the geologic processes of rifting, uplifting, and differential erosion in the landscape. Precedent studies of Enric Miralles’ Igulada Cemetery and Michael Van Vaulkenburg’s Teardrop Park aided further project refinement in terms of the scale, materiality, and constructibility of the design.
